Title: Evolution
Medium: Photo Journalism (Summer Project Curriculum)
Exhibition Text
After accumulating numerous photographs from my community, I pieced together a journal of interrelated photos. Evolution is photographs to places in my community that define my childhood and the process of the decay of activity and liveliness within the society. It shows the caged-in, barren wasteland it has become.
Planning
Starting I had no concept or ideas for how I wanted to attack this project. I was approached though with the idea of photographing all of the doorways/passageways I have walked through throughout my entire life, showing the steps and places I have gone to in my experiences. I eventually implemented this concept into my final product but not as the only theme.
To piggyback my design of my self portraits, each individual picture has a respective meaning and story behind it, but also as a whole has a completely different aspect.
Now that I knew what I was going to do, I started off on my adventure. I traveled, by walking, all around to the corners of my community.

I took over 100 pictures of special places in my community that had a personal significance to me and a story to go along it. I used the paint.net program to edit it final 25 picture to make then black and white.
MeaningI took trips to places in my neighborhood that I had loads of different experiences at and how they shaped who I am today. The problem is that these places are now just remnants to me and other friends because of having to grow up and becoming busier with other things that come up in life. The pictures show no emotion or people to emphasize the depletion of activity and joy that used to come from the places.

Inspiration - Contemporary PhotographyContemporary photography could be described as a photograph from our own time, compared to an image from a much earlier period. It is a rolling and evolving view of photography from a contemporaneous moment in time.
Contemporary photography is a modern method of taking pictures, and the term is usually used to refer to work that is either abstract or unusual in its subject matter. Contemporary photography is frequently considered photography with a message, where the meaning of the picture holds greater weight than its subject matter. |

Connecting to the ACT
1.) Based off of the inspiration that influenced me to create my summer project caused me to refer to my surroundings (people, families, places, etc.) in order to get a general concept of what I had to work with for my piece(s). This effected the outcome by I could piece together each inspiration and combine them into one relevant concept that was projected towards myself and artwork.
2.) I took a very broad approach when attacking this project because based off the meaning of my piece I needed to be open-minded of multiple perspectives and livelihoods. I found that when implementing Complementary art across the self portrait and photography aspects of my pieces, I could use my inspiration as an entirety, or whole instead of individual parts.
3.) I discovered that people and communities have the responsibility to grow up and deal with other tings that become more important. Looking at everything in a sense of generalization, it is not focused on one particular even or situation someone my have but instead bring everyone and everything together.
4.) Taking a deeper look into specific and extensive concepts of people being part of a concept rather than being individual objects. Working hand in hand with the Contemporary Art Movements, Conceptualism provides a more interactive and intuitive experience.
5.) Concluding from my research, I discovered a deeper understanding of what my I used for my inspiration and was better able to produce a more meaningful and understandable art piece.
