Inspiration: Color Field Painting
Color field art is a tendency within Abstract Expressionism, distinct from gestural abstraction, or action painting. Color field art is an expressive power of color by deploying it in large fields that might envelope the viewer when seen at close quarters.

This abstract art was characterized by large fields of flat, solid color, which enveloped the spectator when seen at close quarters. It deliberately avoided portraying forms standing out against a background. Instead, form and background and ground are one, and the picture - seen as a field, rather than a window, draws the eye beyond the edges of the canvas.
Also, the artist's intent in the pieces is to reveal their state of mind or 'expression'. Post-Painterly Abstraction can be described as linear in design, bright in color, lacking in detail and incident, and open in composition. Most importantly, however, it was anonymous in execution: this reflected the artists' desire to leave behind the grandiose drama of Abstract Expressionism.

Planning
At this point in creating my pieces for the school year, I noticed that I needed more variety in my pieces, since most of my work involved I wanted to try something completely different than anything I have done before. The first thing that came to my mind was using crayons for something.
I realized that I didn't have to use crayons in the typical way. I found that I could essentially paint on a canvas with melting crayon and making it drip and flow into the canvas.
Materials that I needed:
1. Small canvas
2. Crayons
3. Heater
4. Cardboard
5. Silhouette figure

Process
After acquiring the materials needed to make the piece. I pulled out all of the crayon color that I wanted to use. I needed to choose enough colors though so that they would fit across the whole canvas. I then cut a piece of cardboard so that I could tape the crayon onto it. This was done so that I could hold all of the crayons in one place while someone else used the heater to melt the crayon. To add the silhouette figure I created an outline to tape into the canvas so when I crayon would drip down, it would simply go around of over the area that I silhouette would go.
I rested the crayons across the top of the canvas while my mother used the heater to melt the crayon on the to canvas. This process took about 10 minuted to almost cover the canvas. After that, I let the crayon cool just long enough so that I want too hot to touch, but not to cooled of so that it became difficult to remove the silhouette template. Then once filly cooled off, I used a sharpie fabric marker (black) to color in the silhouette.
Meaning
Rain is a natural process that holds many different emotions and forms the basis of many legends, but its main symbolic meanings are rebirth, sadness or cleansing. The rain symbolizes cleansing, not only of the physical forms but also of the mind. In addition, its symbol is denoting a way for the existence of a new life. It is perceived by many as the primary fertilizing agent. It is considered as the influence of the heavens on earth and its inhabitants which helps in spiritual growth too. The man in the piece is acknowledging the presence of the rain is curious of its abilities. I man had been experiencing a rough patch in his life and sees the rain as a calling as a refresher for himself. The colors of the rainbow represent the emotion that one can experience throughout their lifetime and can also be seen as a rainbow. Instead of the rainbow happening after the storm, it is during to show to the rain is the cleansing process to the man.
Connecting to the ACT
1) Based off of the inspiration I researched that influenced me to create my color field painting piece made me practice and experiment and new technique to use to make the piece in order to get a visual representation of what I was trying to express in it. I learned to experiment with colors and blending colors to look natural.
2) I took a very open-concept and colorful kook to different kinda of patterns and colors when working on this project. I did this so that the piece wouldn't look as formal but instead something that took attention and concentration to make, since I had to manage the flow of the crayon down the canvas. I found that when implementing Color Field-style art with my piece, I could use my inspiration as a way to better represent the meaning and style.
3) I discovered the value that colors in the color field movement and color has on people's emotions. Rain also has this impact on someone's emotions. Using both aspects in one piece, creates a very emotional ideal that people lok at and can relate.
4) The conception of observation and working in a time-based media was found to be cahallengin but also an inspiration for me. It taight me to focus and pay attention to something so this it wouldn't become ruined. The value of how my piece was presented was immensely important from planning to process to the central meaning..
5) Concluding from my research, I discovered a deeper understanding of what my I used for my inspiration and was better able to produce a more meaningful and understandable art piece.
